Celebrating Pride Month: The Inspiring Journey of Our CEO at the Intersection of Cannabis and LGBTQ+ Advocacy

As Pride Week approaches, it is important to recognize the interconnectedness between the LGBTQ+ community and the legalization of cannabis. This connection stems from the historical struggles faced by both communities and the therapeutic benefits that cannabis offers. A notable example of this relationship can be found in the personal story of Matthew Huron, our Founder and CEO, whose experience with cannabis during the AIDS epidemic shed light on the plant’s medicinal properties. This thought-provoking article by Commonwealth Magazine makes a clear connection of the LGBTQ+ origins of legal cannabis that can be traced back to individuals like Elmer, Matt’s late fathers’ partner, who found solace in cannabis during the AIDS crisis.

“When Elmer – and my dad, a few years later – were diagnosed with the [HIV/AIDS] virus, they began using cannabis medicinally, perhaps without even realizing it. All they knew was that cannabis soothed their pain, increased their appetites, and decreased their anxiety.” Matt continues, “Today, the cannabis industry has grown to an over $30 billion market, which means a lot of venture capitalists and Wall Street types have flocked to it on a mission to make a quick buck, but do not have a passion to produce quality flower. Our mission, however, has always been guided by the impact cannabis had on my father and Elmer, and the overall Pride and cannabis legalization movements that I watched gain momentum throughout my childhood.”

Good Chemistry Nurseries to Open First Medical Dispensary in the City of Worcester’s Canal District

On August 2, 2018, Good Chemistry Nurseries will open the first medical cannabis dispensary at 9 Harrison St. in the City of Worcester’s Canal District. We are grateful to be able to share our extraordinary Cannabis product and experience with the Worcester community.

Good Chemistry Nurseries Founder and CEO Matthew Huron traces his horticultural roots to his grandparents who were farmers before settling in Worcester. The benefits of medical Cannabis became evident to Huron when his father and his father’s partner were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. In 1996, when medical Cannabis became available in California, he saw firsthand the symptomatic relief patients experiences from this alternative medical treatment.

As is true with all Good Chemistry Colorado locations, when visitors first arrive at the 9 Harrison Street location, they are greeted with Good Chemistry’s pioneering category system that helps customers navigate the world of cannabis across many levels by identifying strains under the Amplify, Relax, Relieve and Sleep categories.

Good Chemistry’s design and branding choices are aesthetically pleasing not only for patients, but also for the communities that we serve. Our work has been recognized for its sophistication by a number of media outlets over the years including AdAge, Inc. Magazine and Curbed.

In addition to an award winning design aesthetic, Good Chemistry Massachusetts features a S.T.A.T.S. video display. Created by Good Chemistry Nurseries in 2016, The S.T.A.T.S. method (Sight, Touch, Aroma, Taste, Sensation) is a five-step process for identifying high quality, remarkable flower. This guide can help consumers evaluate essential aspects of the flower in order to make the most informed and satisfying purchase decisions.

Good Chemistry Nurseries was founded in the spirit of “Making Life Better” for those in need. We believe it’s our obligation to give back to the community, and support the vulnerable or underserved. We plan to continue this commitment on behalf of the City of Worcester.

We’d love to stay in touch with you so we can share product information and Good Chemistry Nurseries news and events. Intake forms are available for you to provide us your contact information at the bottom of this page.

We look forward to serving you soon.

S.T.A.T.S. –   A TOOL TO HELP YOU FIND THE BEST CANNABIS EXPERIENCE

In 2016 Good Chemistry launched the S.T.A.T.S. system and guide for evaluating the essential aspects of cannabis. The S.T.A.T.S. method (Sight, Touch, Aroma, Taste, Sensation) is a five-step process for identifying high quality, remarkable flower, not unlike the multi-step process for evaluating wine. The guide can help consumers evaluate essential aspects of the flower in order to make the most informed and satisfying purchase decisions.

S.T.A.T.S. evaluation guides are available for free in our dispensary to adults 21+ years or older interested in learning more about cannabis. The guide is also available online at www.statsguide.org.

Good Chemistry’s Simple, Fun, Free Tool to Help Cannabis Consumers Assess High Quality Cannabis – S.T.A.T.S

“Whether novice of aficionado, knowing how to assess cannabis flower quality is key to having the best possible experience.”
All Cannabis is not created equal, and just as wine enthusiasts enjoy a use friendly tasting system, Good Chemistry Nurseries, one of the industry’s most experienced Cannabis producers has now created a stylish, easy-to-use free consumer Cannabis evaluation guide for assessing quality Cannabis flower. The S.T.A.T.S. method – Sight, Touch Aroma, Taste, Sensation – is a guide to helping consumers evaluate essential aspects of the flower in order to make the most informed and satisfying purchase decisions.
“Just as American consumers have become more knowledgeable about quality wine and craft beer, Good Chemistry Nurseries’ S.T.A.T.S. guide will help consumers quickly and easily assess high quality cannabis,” noted Matthew Huron, CEO, Good Chemistry. Huron is widely recognized as one of the most experienced cultivators of marijuana in the United States. “The S.T.A.T.S. Guide was developed by the Good Chemistry Nurseries cultivators who have years of experience backed by extensive education in horticulture and botany, but we hope consumers will utilize this guide no matter where they purchase their Cannabis.”
The S.T.A.T.S. Guide provides newer consumers the guidelines they need to determine the quality of Cannabis flowers, and allows experienced users a new way to look at the complex world they already appreciate. Established through consumer surveys, strain evaluations, and a team of cultivation experts, S.T.A.T.S. provides consumers with a universal guide to selecting high quality Cannabis. The guide was developed as a simple, easy-to-use evaluation tool and will change the way consumers view and purchase Cannabis flower.

S.T.A.T.S.:

Sight: Seeing the flower can sometimes be the only evaluation option before purchase, so it is important to know what the visual cues for remarkable cannabis are. S.T.A.T.S. helps consumers evaluate qualities including trichome content, color and trim.

Touch: Touching the flower can help with evaluating the cure (the controlled drying process to achieve proper moisture content post-harvest). S.T.A.T.S. defines how your bud should feel.

Aroma: Each strain has a unique aroma. Distinctions can be made between high and poor quality aroma. S.T.A.T.S. reviews what scents should be expected, and what smells can denote poor quality.

Taste: Different strains will have different flavor profiles. Similar to wine tasting, experience is necessary to distinguish between different flavors in the strains. Plus, how to ensure you are getting the best taste out of your flower.

Sensation: The first sensation that comes from cannabis is the sensation of lift, or of being high. Varying experience levels may affect how people feel with each strain and the amount of time people feel lifted. Good Chemistry has identified the key categories of sensations that can come from different strains including Amplify, Relax, Relieve, and Sleep.

An electronic copy of the S.T.A.T.S. guide is available for free to the public at statsguide.org. Hard copy booklets are available at no cost at Good Chemistry’s locations on 9 Harrison Street in the Canal District.
